Consumers buying low-price food items amid inflation in Japan 2023, by age
Changing to lower-priced products was a leading measure among the majority of Japanese consumers to counter food price inflation, according to a survey conducted in October 2023. Young adults aged 18 to 29 years were most likely to change their food choices to inexpensive alternatives, with 66.1 percent of respondents. The share was lowest among senior consumers aged 70 years and older, with less than 56 percent making the switch.
