Share of abortions undergone by migrant women in Italy 2003-2019
In Italy, a considerable share of voluntary interruptions of pregnancy (VIPs) are performed on non-Italian women. This statistic illustrates the share of VIPs undergone by women from countries with high migratory pressure living in Italy in selected years from 2003 to 2019. According to the study results, about one in five abortions (21.2 percent) was undergone by migrant women in 2003. This percentage had increased to 30 percent by 2009 and continued to increase thereafter, peaking at 33.2 percent in 2014. In the following years this share fluctuated, reaching 28.6 percent in 2019.
