Access to services for young migrants in Africa 2020
The limited availability of services or the related costs are problems that confront migrants in many countries on migration routes, in particular young people and children. In a survey conducted in Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, and Egypt between 2019 and 2020, 37 percent of migrants declared to have wanted to attend a school but were unable to. Similarly, legal assistance and support from social workers were not available for 32 percent of young migrants. According to the source, some of the main barriers in accessing such services were lack of availability, costs, lack of information, mistrust, or stigma.
